HOW TO ACE YOUR JOB SEARCH

New Year, New Job

As we enter the new year a lot of people think about new challenges and hunting for a new role, so we’ve written this blog all about acing your next job search………we hope you find this of value.

First off smashing a job search really does mean treating it as a focused project: be clear on the job role you’re searching for: position yourself well with a strong CV, LinkedIn profile and portfolio if necessary. Then use the right mix of job boards, networking and throw in a bit of AI to assist with your applications and you should be on to a winner.

Target and Strategy

  • Define 1–3 target roles and industries, then pull 5–10 example job ads and highlight repeated skills and keywords; these become your focus for CVs, LinkedIn, and interview prep.
  • Use those ads to identify gaps (e.g. a missing software or qualification) and plan quick wins: short online courses, certifications, or small projects you can complete in weeks, not months to gain the relevant qualifications.

Core UK Job Sites

  • General UK boards with strong coverage include Indeed, LinkedIn Jobs, Glassdoor, Totaljobs, Reed, CV-Library, and Adzuna; using 2–3 actively is usually enough for most roles. Ensure you have a well written and fully completed profile including all of the potential job titles of your selected role.
  • Use filters aggressively (location, salary, remote/hybrid, contract type) and set up email alerts so high‑quality roles come to you daily rather than scrolling endlessly.

Smart Application Tools

  • Use AI CV checkers (io, Jobscan, Teal, Rezi, Kickresume) to scan a job description and show missing keywords, then tailor your CV and cover letter for each role to pass applicant‑tracking systems (ATS).
